L/Sgt Ernest Beeston MM 01/07/1916 aged 28
Ernest was awarded his Military Medal for taking part in an action at the end of June 1916 that resulted in the capture of a German machine post.
He was killed between 4 and 11.30 am, having proceeded to the trenches at as smoke bomb partieswith men of his platoon.
They returned having been heavily shelled by the Germans who put up a barrage.
He died with two other men from his Company “B” Coy 1st/6th – The Rifles – Liverpool Regiment.
They are buried side by side.

He was the son of George Smith and Bertha Smith (nee Bithell) of 42 New street, Hanford, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.
He enlisted on 15/01/1915 and was appointed A/Bmb on 24/04/1916.
