He was killed in the battle for Bure in Belgium, a part of the Ardennes offensive.
He was with Alpha Company 13th Parachute regiment.

Pte William Jackson 17/08/1917 - 11/01/1945
William was born in Walsall to John and Sarah Ann Jackson of 35, Bagnall Street, Leamore.
Serving initially with the 1st Bn, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, he landed in France on D Day, 06/06/1944 and took part in actions at Caen and Falaise.
He was transferred to the Seaforth Highlanders on 27/08/1944.
William was mortally wounded during an attack to take the high ground south of the main Marche-Hotton road.
It is believed that William was sheltering in a barn when struck by a shell.
His parents are buried in Ryecroft Cemetery, Walsall and he is commemorated on their headstone.

Andrew Woolf had five sons who served during the war.
Fortunately, four of them survived.
