He was born in Hastings All Saints, The Creek, 1879
He was markman or sniper
For his great nephew Andrew Martin
Pte Charles Cockayne 17/05/1918 aged 27
He broke his leg and was wounded on 25/03/1918 during an attack east of Curchy.
He was left behind when the battalion were forced to retire and was taken prisoner by the Germans.
He died of his wounds at the prisoner of war hospital at La Capelle.
