Sgt Maurice Guy Jones 11/06/1940 aged 23
John was born the son of John and Fanny Jones formerly of Walsall and latterly of Kington, Herefordshire.
He attended Queen Mary’s School, Walsall and then completed his education at Lady Hawkins Grammar School, Kington.
Working in aeronautical factories he training as an observer in the Royal Air Force just prior to the outbreak of war.
At 11.30am on Tuesday 11/06/1940 Maurice and his crew took off from their base to support troops engaged in the Battle of France.
While flying through cloud his pilot unknowingly overtook the formation leader.
While turning to port his aircraft collided with another aircraft shedding a wing as they struck.
Out of control, the Blenheim crashed in the vicinity of Pont-Audemer, Eure on the south bank of the River Risle, 20 miles south east of Le Havre killing the crew.
