26 Son of Harry Thompson, a Bricklayer from East Markham and his wife Annie Elizabeth (nee Gilyeard) from Burringham, Lincolnshire. On the 1911 Census the family were living in Westgate, Tickhill, when young Harry Thompson was employed as a Horseman (Carter) for a Builder. for his niece freda line and his great niece Margaret E. Brett |
Dvr Alfred Wesley Brookes 28/12/1944
aged 32 Alfred was born in Cannock, the son of David and Mary Brookes of 65, Walsall Road, Bridgtown and later of 23, Park Street, Bridgtown, his father, an edge tool finisher, predeceasing him. He was married to Elsie Evelyn Sheppard at Walsall in 1934 and resided at 50, Teddesley Street, Walsall making his living at the Aldridge Brick, Tile and Coal Company Limited. Alfred joined the Army in 07/1940 serving for 8 months in the North Staffordshire Rgt before transferring to the Royal Army Service Corps. for Graeme Clarke and the people of Walsall |

Harry was in a cinema in Antwerpen
when a German V2 fell on it killing or wounding more than 1,200 people. Among them about 210 soldiers were killed with more than 80 soldiers dying of their wounds in the following three weeks, including 21 members of the Pioneer Corps killed and 6 later died of their wounds. More about this here. |
