David Alfred William Mayo 22/10/1922 - 22/05/1944 David was killed whilst returning from a raid on Duisburg on the 21/22 May 1944, His sister, Marjorie How (Nee Mayo) was in the WAAF, whilst David's brother Phillip was a Captain in the RAF. Their father R. G. E. Mayo was a squadron Leader in the RAF in the second world war, having been a Captain in the Army in WWI. He was gassed at Yppres, and wounded at Passchendalle, where he was awarded the Military Cross. Their mother was a services ambulance driver in WWII. Marjorie's husband, was in the Beds and Herts Regiment in WWII as was his father in WWI. Two of his uncles were killed in WWI; one at Yppres and one in Palestine, and his cousin was also killed. for Phil How and family |
