Lovely web site. I was pleased to be able to add something for Pilot Office John Dickinson, shot down in his Lancaster bomber with six other crew over Ugny-sur-Meuse in Lorraine, France in 1944 after a mission over southern Germany. All crew were killed, but now lie in a communal French cemetry looked after by local people and the CWGC. In 2008 we visited to pay respects, and think were the first ever immediate family to do so.

Taking my Dad to Beuvry Communial Cemetry this Saturday 21/8/2010. His Dad is buried there and has not been there before. Detaisl all confirmed on this site. Thanks. His Dad was Charles Richard Hearn.

Looking up family online and found my great uncle Dugald McPherson Wighton. When he died his sister Angelina (my grandmother) woke up from sleep and immediately knew he had died. I wish I could find a photo of him. He was born in Scotland and travelled to NZ as a young boy with the rest of the family in 1885 on the SS Arawa from London

My father was killed in 1940 at Dunkirk in 1984 i decided to find out where he was buried iwas very successful,he is buried in the miltary cemetary at Etaples in northern France, I have visited his grave many times almost every year since 1984.I never new him as i was born after his death ,my mother used to tell me all about him also i have photographs of him. BOMADIER JOHN DAVIES PEARSON LINDON aged 27 died 27 May 1940 . RIP

Corporal Arthur Edward Bradford was buried in Sandpits British Cemetery in 1918. He had been wounded two years previously and spent many months recovering before being sent to Ireland as part of a peace keeping force in the south. He was shipped back to France on Easter Day 1918 and by August he was in Bethune where he was killed in action. He was survived by two brothers and two sisters, the youngest of which was my Grandmother. We constantly remember him and his sacrifice. Next month (September) I am visiting his grave for the first time and I am looking forward to it very much.

Recently visited the area around Cambrai trying to search for my gt uncle, Fred Matthews, rifleman in the Post Office Rifles, 1st/8th Btn, service no. 373213, died 30/11/1917. I was unsucessful but now from the CWGC I believe his name is inscribed on the Cambrai memorial, Louverval-yet I cannot see his name listed on your website. Has anyone any ideas where else I may look. Many Thanks.

Just found one of my wife's ancestors, Arthur Francis McMeeken, killed in action at Beaulencourt in 1916 and buried in the cemetery there. Many thanks for all your efforts in remembering all those who gave their lives for us. You have made it possible for us to locate the exaction location of his grave when we visit. I have found a photograph of Flying Office Robert Joseph Keyes of the RCAF, with his four other crew members (my cousin, John Gilbert Cocks is also in the photograph) standing in front of their Wellington Bomber. Robert was killed on 13/02/1943 and is buried in Guidel Communal Cemetery in France. I also have a letter from Robert's mother to my cousin's father dated 1949 when she sent the photograph to my family. How strange fate is - the morning of the raid to Germany when my cousin was killed on 31st October 1942, Robert was too ill to fly but alas died only 3 months or so later on a different raid..

If there are any relatives of Robert who would like a copy of the photograph and indeed the letter, I would be only too happy to post copies.

God bless them all for the freedom we enjoy today.. I never take this freedom for granted...

My great cousin John Lackie , who was a Private in the Canadian, Lincoln and Welland Regiment is listed here. He died 66 years ago today aged 19. John's company, B company, were leaving the village of Olendon in Normandy when they were attacked. He died later in the day from the wounds he received.
He'll never be forgotten.

found my G.G. Uncle on your website

I am trying to trace a relative of my Grandmother and believe I have found him on your website. The details are F W Mason Rifleman 596122 London Regiment 18th County of London Battalion London Irish Rifles buried in Valencennes St Roch IV F.23. Nobody ever mentioned this relative and I believe no one has ever been to his grave. My sister and I would like to go so that at least some family has been there. If you have a picture of the grave I would be very grateful for a copy.

I send you my families thanks for retaining the memory of those men from across the world who made the supreme sacrifice in the name of freedom and democracy. My wife's grandfather, Pte Frank Wright of the Coldstram Guards, was killed in the Houthulst Forest area on 9th October 1917. While researching his death and circumstances we found out that his brother, Percy Clifford Wright was also killed in Belgium, his death was just 2 months before his elder brother Frank. Through the CWWG website we found that Percy Clifford has a grave at Haringhe, and we visit the grave evry year, in fact we will be over there on 31st August 2010. f you wouldn't mind I would like to send you a photograph of Percy Clifford in his uniform for inclusion on your website. Many thanks to you and all who keep he memory of these brave, brave men to the fore front of peoples minds.

Thank you I found my Grandfather last resting place 2321 Cpl W.L Cain died 30th Sept 1916. he was a miner and did not have to join but he did because he had an extensive background in detecting and identifying gases. He was wounded and was waiting to be transported to the U.K when the hospital train he was on was bombed by the enemy. I would like a photo of him if pos and service records
