Thank you Pierre for this lovely site. I came across it by chance searching for more information about a particular cemetery and noticed that you had picked up a photo and information about my Grandfather which was really heartwarming to see. I will now be a very interested visitor to your website. Thanks again.

My great uncle, James Minshall Cornwell was an Aucklander. I have just ascertained that he was a jeweller in Auckland, prior to his work taking him to Fiji where he worked for two years. He joined the Australian Forces in 1916, and went to war in France where he was killed in action in late 1916. Thank you and to people like you for collating all this info. When we had the opportunity to ask our parents and grand parents about these things we weren't particularly concernd then. Now that we are older, we DO want to learn more, so thanks again.

My Grandmother's first husband, Thomas Odd, was killed in action on September 2nd, 1918. He is buried in France in Wancourt British Cemetery. My Aunt provided me with information on a father she never met...he lost his life in battle at Dro-court line. He enlisted in Canada in 1914 with the 15th Battalion of the 48th Highlanders. I would appreciate any information about this battle or about the 48th Highlanders. I also know he was born on May 11th, 1885 in Halstead, Kent, England.

My great uncle, Michael Kokoska, a private in the United States Army, was killed June 27, 1918 and buried for 3 years in the Morvillars French Cemetery until his parents were able to have his body repatriated back to Chicago. His death was an accident. He was on guard duty in one of the trenches. Another soldier, Pvt. Richard Howard came around the corner of a traverse trench and my uncle halted him with his gun at the position of ready. The other soldier had been shooting rats, had reloaded his gun and neglected to put the safety on. When halted, he came to the ready position, accidently pulling the trigger and shot my Uncle Michael through the neck. He died shortly thereafter. This account being from his IDPF file. From researching casualty records, and there being no record of him, it appears that Pvt. Howard survived the war. We can only hope he was more cautious after having taken a fellow soldier's life.

My great uncle Ernest Richmond Snowdon (Private 6906 26th Battalion 7th Infantry Brigade 2nd Australian Division), was killed in action on 09th October 1917. Family history says that he was killed by machine gun fire and that his body was destroyed by an ensuing German artillery bombardment and hence he has no known grave. Research indicates that he may have died in the Battle of Poelcapelle as the history reflects this family story about the Aussies being forced back and then the entire area being shelled. If you could include him in your casualty list I would appreciate it. Thank you.

We had a pleasant surprise to find this website, especially after returning from the Somme and Belgium Battlefields. Our uncles' Charles Mohr and Augustus Florentius Bosschart Stephens are buried in Courcelette and Guards Cemetery (Lesboeufs) respectively. We left poppies and messages and I believe we are the only members of our families to have ever visited their sites. The cemeteries are all beautifully maintained and people should visit these places if they have the opportunity to do so. Memorable and emotional. May all those soldiers from all countries rest in peace.

Hi Pierre
Great site. Researching my uncle's short history and was pleased to find you have a picture of his and his crewmembers grave sites at Zuypteene, France. His name was WO1 H W Davy RCAF KIA. If it is possible I would like to obtain a copy of the group picture and an individual one of his grave. Am trying to put a history of his life together for my brother and sisters.
Thank you for any help.
Michael
