In memory of Private LEONARD HERBERT SOWRY 32242, 12th (Nelson) Coy. 3rd Bn Canterbury. Who died at the age of 22 on 11 August 1917. Fighting the 3rd Battle of Ypres 1917 (Passchendele) Along with 7 others from the 3rd they fell that day. 'The life promised to you was denied, I will always remember and honor you'

Mathew Zotnick was my father's (Henry Zotnick Sinclair)cousin. I will be delighted to hear from any persons visiting or wishing information about the"Zotnick" family.

My Grandfather was Benjamin Harper, 323315, died 1/03/17, aged 29. He left a wife Eliza and four children, my father was the youngest, being only 10 months old. My father would have been 93 today. We never knew our Grandfather was killed by "friendly fire" at Hill 60.

F.D.Risidore is buried here, and it is my one objective in life to visit his gravesite. He was with the 3rd Canadian Artillery Division when he was killed in Belgium.

This is a lovely website. I went to Dunkirk in 1989 and found my Uncle Richard's (Covell) grave (DLI). I only knew that he died at Dunkirk 1940 - but not what date. Amazingly the day I visited was the 1st of JUne - the anniversary of the day he was killed. The cemetry was lovely and so well kept. I would love to visit again

so moved to see my great uncles name Francis Walter hendrick. Never knew he was killed in WW! came across info by accident. An emotional trip. He fell on 23/April 1917. Your website has a photo of my 1st Cousin twice removed. Ie. Son of my Great Grand Aunt. Lt Philip Edward Michael Vowels MC+BAR.
I recently read Philips service record which is available online via the National Archives in Australia. What this young man went through is beyond belief. He served at Gallipolli and Poitiers was wounded in action twice during his service before returning to the front only to be killed in action.
Lest we forget.

I am proud that one of these heroes helped to bring me up and died at aged 89 in 1977 and that their blood flows through my veins.

This is a great website and a real tribute to those who gave their lives so that we their descendants could enjoy our lives in freedom. My great uncle Hubert Wiremu Steel, buried in Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, was one of those, and I am thankful he was able to be identified and have his own memorial stone. Looking at the photos is a very moving experience and makes one realise how much we owe to those who laid down their lives.

I am still taking an interest in your website and it gets better. It has to be one of the best websites on your subject, on the internet. The improvements to the site show such dedication from a man who is so sincere about those who fought and died in that terrible conflict WW1.
I am engrossed at this time, in writing the war memoirs of my uncle, Private Horace Angier, 2nd Royal Berkshire Regiment, who was killed at the Glory Hole and who is shown on this dedicated website.

You have presented a truly wonderful site - heart wrenching but factual. May I use the photo of the Archway Building of Rue Petillon Military Cemetery (Fleurbaix (Pas de Calais France) please as I am compiling a Book of my family. Edward Peter Murphy was killed 20.7.1916 and laid to rest here.
My grandfather's brother John Bold Green is commemorated on the Menin Gate as his body was never found. God bless your work.

This is my great uncle it is nice to see that they arnt forgot and that the graves are kept so well.

What a lovely site to honour those that died for their country and now rest in Bertenacre. My grandfather, Private George Victor Skeet. MM of the 9th Battalion, Queens West Surrey Regiment who was killed on 18th August 1918 lies there with his comrades.

My great uncle, Alexander Stirling Cross is on your list. He was kille on 7 June 1917. He belonged to Scotland but was in the merchant navy and joined the army in New Zealand.

My great uncle William Garlick Neville was killed on the first day of the Somme - 1st July 1916 - and is buried at Redan Ridge Cemetary No 2 in Beaumont Hamel. It is lovely to see that he is remembered here. He came from Mortimer in Berkshire and was my grandad's younger brother. Before the war he was the postman for the village and a local bell ringer. He is also commemerated on the web page for the Central Council of Bellringers and on the war memorial in Mortimer. I would like to thank you for putting together this website and to say that we must never forget what our brave heroes did for us so that we can now live in peace.

Thank you for creating this site. I was able to learn a bit more about my Great Uncle Henry Phillip Aishford that died in Belgium on Sunday, April 23, 1916. The First World War was not something we spoke of when I was growing up, and as a result, I never really knew the details of his death. I still live in Swansea, Canada and I have learned that Henry was the first man from this small village to die in The Great War. I am proud of him.

This is an amazing website, which has helped me to locate a member of my family, thus enhancing my Genealogy Project. I was unprepared to find a picture of where my relative is buried.

Thomas Charles Yapp of the Welsh Fusiliers was laid to rest at BOIS-DES-ANGLES BRITISH CEMETERY, CREVECOEUR-SUR-L'ESCAUT on 8 October, 1918 - aged just 19 years.

The information which is given with his listing helps me piece my family history together. I shall look upon Rememberance Day with far greater passion, henceforth.

My great uncle, Pte Walter Thomas Smith of 1/8th Royal Warwickshire Regiment, died from wounds inflicted in action on 01.09.1917, many years before I was born. God rest his sole and that of my uncle Tom (RAF) 'm inissing presumed killed' in WW2, resting place 'somewhere in Germany'.

Uncle Victor was born in Southport, Tasmania, Australia and moved to New Zealand to work with his brothers in the timber industry.
He joined The New Zealand Rifle Brigade 12th Reinforcements 1st Battalion, E Company and embarked on 11th October 1916.
He was killed in Belgium on 18th. June 1917
