Thanks to this site I have seen a photo of the grave of one of my relatives who died 23 September 1914. He is buried with three others in a plot at Maintenon Communal Cemetery ( Eure et Loire ).
I'm hoping to visit one day - I think I will be the first of my family to do so.

On a visit to Scotland in 2008, I found the headstone for my grandparents in Dunfermline. As well as grandparents, also included was a son Robert, buried in Ghent in 1918. This was the first I'd heard of a relative being killed in WWI as my family had left Scotland in 1950 when I was very young.
This year, I returned to Europe and paid my respects to Uncle Robert in the City Cemetery, Ghent. It's refreshing to see that these small cemeteries are not forgotten.

This page is the best ever. I have finally seen the cemetry my great uncle James Henry THURGOOD is buried in QUERRIEU British Cemetery (Somme France). I have his war records which I applied for at the Australian War Memorial but all it shows is that he died on the 11/05/1918 with no cause given. He is listed as killed in action. Looking at the records of date of death in this cemetery it would appear that the men died on average about 5 days apart. How my great uncle died is a mystery. I believe however that he would have fallen somewhere near this cemetery. If you have a picture of his grave could you please post it on this site. Thankyou.

I now live in British Columbia Canada.
My father visited his namesake & Uncle in 1996 grave in the Somme .
and found his uncle's gravestone HENRY WHITTHREAD GUILE who was in the British Army for 3 years during the WW1 . He told me how saddened he was to see that his namesake had been in the army at the front for so long and yet died of unknown causes months before the war ended . My father joined the RAF as a young man and flew Lancasters when he was only 21yrs of age. He was a lifetime member of the RAF until retirement in 1984.

I have a Great Uncle from my mother's side buried in the Troisvilles Communal Cemetery, Thomas Walters. I had travelled through France a number of times and could not find where he was buried, even with the help of the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC). I have an original photo of the initial grave and photos of him in uniform with the stand-up cardboard cannon.

Something I learned from the Troisvilles Communal Cemetery page was he was 28 years old when Killed in Action and his middle name was William. We did not know when he was born or if he had a middle name, just that he was born in England.

In memory of my grandfather Richard Davenport who died in 1918. He enlisted 1914 and my dad was born 1915 so never knew his father. It has been an up hill battle to find details of my grandfather because he enlisted in The East Lancs but died in the King's Liverpool Reg. He also ended up with two reg numbers. We have now found his details and know he is buried in The Post Office Riffles Cemetery. Thanks to everyone who helps keep sites like these going.

In memory of my Grand Father William Fraser, Sergeant Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) 1st/5th Bn. Died 08/09/16 aged 36. I am the daughter of his daughter Winifred that he didn't live to see, she was born Feb 1917. I visited his grave in Morchies some years ago and never took a photograph and have regretted it since. Thanks to your site I have now been able to obtain one. I am the only member of his family so far that has been able to visit his grave, some 80 years later. We have to remember that travel just after the war was not only virtually impossible but also very expensive. It must have been very difficult for family's to mourn without their loved ones being returned home. Being able to write this has made it so much easier and to feel so much closer. May they all rest in peace.
