He had been a cowboy in Western Canada and volunteered to join the a Canadian regiment called "Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians)". My uncle, Flt. Sgt. Bernard Carroll is one of the men buried in this cemetery. Previous to this reconstruction of the grave sites, we had a picture of a single grave marker with the names: Kirkwood, Williams, Twining, Stone, Carroll and Barrett.
The efforts you have take in creating this sites and the efforts of those in maintaining the gravesites is very much appreciated.
I would appreciate hearing from any other relatives of those men buried at the Corbais Cemetery.

What an excellent site. My Grandfather L/Cpl Victor R. Tweney while serving with 1st Canadian Motor Machine Gun Brigade, was one of two machine guns sent into the cemetery at Onnaing by Capt Worthington on Nov 4 1918, to engage large numbers of German troops hold up in the cemetery, During the terrific fire fight that ensued, L/Cpl Tweney was severely wounded but refused to leave his gun and continued firing until re-enforcements arrived. He received the Military Medal For Bravery in the Field during this action at Onnaing Cemetery Nov 4, 1918.

My greatgrandfather J Fuller buried in Picquigny Communal - died 23/5/1916

You should be very proud of this site as it recognises the great duty, commitment and loss of life of young soldiers during both World Wars and you should also be proud of the work you have done in photographing the graves.

Thanks

I found my Grandfather at Valenciennes His name is Matthew Swinburne, Second Lieuteneant Kings' Own(royal Lacaster Regt). He died of wounds on Sept 5th 1918. Three months to the day before his last child my Dad was born. ( Dec 5th 1918) He never saw this son. He and his brothers and sister was fostered out after their mother died a year or so after. I took photos of his grave. I know so little about him yet felt a strong connection to him while I stood there. No photos just a name of a man who is part of me. What a wonderful site this is. So pleased I found it. It was peaceful at Valenciennes and well cared for. Thank you for this. Anne Newcastle upon Tyne England

Thank you so much for such a wonderful website and for your dedication and kindness in taking photographs of Howard Phipps' grave at Quievy Cemetery in France.

My Great Uncle, Howard Phipps, was a Private in the Devonshire Regiment when he was killed on 21st October 1918 at 18 years of age. My Grandmother had always tried to find her little brother's grave but never managed to in her lifetime. Finally he is found, after all this time, and my mother and I have photographs of his grave that have meant so much to us - thank you!!

Merci Beaucoup

Lorna Hodgetts.

My great uncle Samuel Ferris, a private in The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment was killed in action on 4th November1918. He is buried in Mazinghein Communal Cemetery. Many members of my family have visited his grave and I intend to make a pilgrimage this autumn with my son and partner.I was deeply moved to see the photographs of Mazinghienn Cemetery and all the fallen. May I express my gratitude for all the dedication you have givern to your site.

I visited this cemetery in May 2008 as a distant relative Andrew Hugh Carrigan (AIF) is buried there. There was an official looking document attached to the main entrance which appeared to be something to do with redevelopment. Does anyone know anything about any changes planned for this cemetery?
Thanks
