yesterday whilst going through some slides from my late grandad, and late dads, i found a slide of Dickibush Cemetary at Ypres, where my late gran's father was tragically killed during WW1, she never got to meet him or knew him.
I guess at sometime in the 60's or 70's my gran and grandad must have visited the cemetary in search of his grave...
I have been privaleged to have visted Belgium on many occasions, and been to both Ypres and Mons... until yesterday i was truely unaware of my great grandfather resting place, and only through researching on line this cemetary have i found his service number 57938 Gunner W.H.Merefield died 1st August 1917 Royal Artillery.
I am now determined to find out more about him, his life, a photo, what happened to his medals... thanks to the creator of this site
regards, mark.

Thank you, Pierre, for what you have done here. Is there anyone that might be able to take an individual photo at Two Trees Cemetery in Moyenneville, Somme? My grand uncle is John Flatley, who is buried there. Also, how do I see this cemetery on Google maps, or google earth? I cannot find the coordinates.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Greetings: After many years of searching I have received burial and exhumation documents showing that my uncle John Tesoro, Pvt. Co.B, 7th Reg. 3rd Infantry Division, USA, was buried in this cemetery on the 4th of July, 1918, Commune No. C13, grave 33, 49E. He was killed on June 15, 1918 at Chateau Thierry. Was this an Allied cemetary at one time? His body was returned to the US in 1921. Would appreciate any historic info you have on this matter. Merci!

I am Karen Norris. My Great Grandfather George Norris is buried at the Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery. He was a 2nd corporal with the Royal Engineers and was killed in action on 4 September 1916. I will visit his grave soon. It is very important to remember our soldiers, they fought for our democratic rights and we will never know what they went through each day. God Bless them.

thankyou so much for keeping the memory of these soldiers alive. Andrew Bayne left his wife and four young children in Australia to fight in WW1. They were new arrivals from Scotland so had no other family in Australia. One day I hope to go to Belgium with my children to visit his grave.

Hello, I am the great grandaughter of Robert E Hay, a pioneer of the Royal Engineers, who is buried at Zuydcoote. My husband and I visited the cemetery for the first time in 2008 late in the evening, in darkness. I found my great grandad's grave using only the light from my mobile phone! I was able to go back and tell my Granny Donaldson (his daughter who was only 3 when he died) that I had visited his grave, and this brought her so much happiness. I grew up living in the house opposite my Granny, and I was extremely close to her. I have visited Zuydcoote again since. When my Granny died, I recieved my great grandad's medal, and a letter from a nurse that looked after him shortly before he died. In this letter, the nurse records his last words, including a message to my Granny (Jeannie). He was and is a true inspiration and will never be forgotten. I will be back!

It is fantastic to see a website which remembers those buried at Zuydcoote, and I thank those involved for all their efforts in maintaining this site and allowing us all to remember our friends and relatives. Thanks too for all who look after and maintain the war graves throughout the area, especially Zuydcoote. It is a beautiful and peaceful place, and is a real tribute to all who rest here.

I am the Grandson of Leslie Packman. I visited the grave with my mother in 2009 and my mum placed a stone from the English Channel with the word "DAD" written on it on the headstone of her father. I wanted to pay my respects once again to my Grandfather and his brother in arms, in spirit and in fortitude, John Ion. I salute the bravery of all that gave their lives so that we may live in freedom and continue to serve our countries with pride

May they rest in peace for now and forever more

Your Grandson, James

I know I've emailed you personally, Pierre, but I'd like to make public my appreciation of your efforts to preserve the memory of those who were killed in Belgium and France. It's good that there are cemeteries and memorials, but not everyone can visit these, so sites such as yours are invaluable.
