Excellent site! I started doing research on an alum, who was one of many that went to fight in WW1 and was injured in the Second battle of Ypres, dying in the Boulougne Hospital on May 24, 1915.

Lt. Daniel P. Stephenson, B.A. (2nd. Class Hon. Juris Hons.) was a sportsman and academic of renown at Wolmer's Boys' School and went on to be a Rhodes Scholar at Lincoln College (1911-1914).

Any and every bit of information I can gather I would like to use to tribute him in a small e-book which will publish on the 100th anniversary of his death in May 2015., under the auspices of our non-profit Wolmer's Cricket Initiative who help the school's cricketers.

We have a profile of him in our 'Wolmer's Cricket Commemorative' but I still need a lot more information on him and if possible any other photos and details.

I am trying to find out more information regarding my Great Uncle PS Graves Sqdn 619 Flight Engineer RAFVR, SN1621464.
My Nana passed away several years ago believing that he was shot down over France on his way back from a bombing mission. He was in a Lancaster Bomber ND957 (I believe) which came down over St-Pierre on the 7/8 Jan 45. Here are the other crew members:
C K Flockhart, R W Price, R W Keightley, E A Smith T L Letchfors and A F Murdoch.
After a little research it seems they may have collided with PB586 on the way back home. Both crew are buried in adjacent graves.
If anyone can help me find out more information I would be extremely grateful. Kind regards

John Henry Daborn would have been my uncle if he had not died in 1917.His lovely sister was my mum Dorothy Daborn,she often spoke of him and I have a photo of him in uniform with his wife,also a family photo of him with his father,mother and brothers and sisters.
I often think of him while doing the family tree.Tears came into my eyes when I found out where his grave is.

Researching family tree and find my mother's cousin Harold Parish from Whitwick and served with Leicestershire Regiment and died on 23rd Oct 1916 is buried at St Sever cemetary. Be interested to here from anyone who may be related.

My great grandfather Joseph Henry Thompson of the Kings Liverpool regiment is listed on your site. Thanks to your website his grandsons Arthur and John were there at his side last week. His great grandson Michael and great great grandson Daniel were there near Ypres two years ago. We owe this family man our lives and we remember him with a tear in our eyes and wish he had dodged the bullet that killed him. The war graves commission do a marvellous job in Belgium and at this anniversary we must never forget the sons who died for our freedoms.

He is buried at Heath Cemetery Harbonnieres. My father Fredrick William Thomas Stafford grew up an orphan and did not know his family. My father was the second son of Charles. The first son was named with his fathers name. He also Had a sister, the first born, Emily Margaret. I know nothing of my Father's family. Other than the above details.

My great uncle Sgt George Smith, 1st Battalion of the East Surrey Regiment, is remembered at the Dunkirk Memorial. He died on 21 May 1940 (aged 30). I gather he was killed five days before the battle and evacuation of Dunkirk commenced, but I do not know the circumstances or location of his death.

I did not know him, but I frequently remember him.

On this special anniversary - remembering Private James Duncanson of the Black Watch, beloved husband of Jeannie, who gave his life for the peace we enjoy today. May God bless his soul.

On this day as we remember D day I also remember my uncle Joe. He died on the 28th March 1942. He was on HMS Campeltown which rammed the harbour at St. Nazaire to stop the German u boats from leaving. He drowned trying to save his friends. His body was swept down the coast. He is buried in a small cemetery on the island of L Etienne
He was 20years old. A great swimmer and footballer. He was due to play for Glasgow Rangers but was drafted. My grandmother got word he had died on his 21st birthday. He had told her that if every family gave one member the world would be saved. He gave his life by volunteering for the raid. He trained in Canada especially for the raid. He was sorely missed.

We will remember with pride.

I found my uncle Bertie hill is buried in terlincthun cemetery . He was killed two months before the war finished. My son is taking me to see his grave in September . I,m so glad because I feel someone needs to pay tribute to him and all the other young men who lost their lives so that we can live free lives.

Private Thomas Scott 1344 23rd Northumberland Fusileers 4th Tyneside Scottish who walked to his death on the 1st July 1916 aged 38
His grave is No-Mans-Land near the village of La Boisselle and is remembered on Theipval
He was born at Ford near Wooler in Northumberland and was married to Hannah (Gray) his children were my Grandfather William Ralph , Norman ,Olive and Thomas Gordon , he went off to do his bit for his country have a bit of an adventure in a foreign country ,earn a few bob and return to his job as a Tailor in Bedlington , my Grandad was still grieving for him 60years later, we have no photos of Thomas nothing at all , I hope a family member somewhere will read this and we may see his face some day

We have just visited the Le Tréport cemetery in France where my Grandad is buried, it was such an emotional visit but also lovely to see the beautiful hilltop cemetery overlooking the sea. I will treasure those memories forever.

Albert Ives. I am researching the background of all the men on our war memorial in Crondall who gave their lives in WWI. Albert Ives was in the King's Royal Rifle Corps and his grave is in the Dendermonde Extension cemetery grave no 3 of 17. I suspect he was taken prisoner of war by the Germans on 12 April 1918 and died of wounds and on 26 April 1918.
Grateful if you could send me a photo of his gravestone.

My Grandad; Ernest Young of 3rd Dragoon Guards; survived WW1, only being slightly wounded at Frezenburgh Ridge, then later gassed at Loos.. He was one of the lucky ones...
My Brother and I have visited Ypres and located the approximate site of the trench where Grandad was wounded. That was emotional. .. We left a poppy cross on memory of his mates who never made it on his posthumous behalf...

have attached a link for a photo of my great grandfather Driver William Moore 1090. Died and buried in France in WW1 after surviving the hell that was Galipolli. I was lucky enough to visit his grave in Bapaume in 2002 and was humbled by the surrounds and the care that has been taken to ensure these men lay with dignity 100 years on.

My Uncle Company Sergeant Major Harry Betts M.C. D.C.M. and Bar, Cambridgeshire Regiment. Killed 22nd. August 1918. Buried in Beacon Cemetery, Sailly-Laurette, Somme, France. He was recommended for the V.C.
He was a very brave man.
I am visiting his grave on 26th. May 2014 to pay tribute to him.

Hi, I have just found that you have a photo of my grandfathers grave on here, Fernley Phillips d.07.06.1940, buried in Ecouis communal cemetery, although the spelling on here is Fernaley. I would love to have a larger copy of this photo if it is available please. I have photos of Fernley as a boy and may have one of him as a man if you would like it for the site?
