new military cemetery his name was john Williams of the kings Liverpool

My great uncle Sydney Albert Dunstan from Boulder, Western Australia, killed 3-6 November 1916 at Flers, is buried at Warlencourt. One of my earliest childhood memories in the 1950s is of a large framed photograph of Sydney hanging in my grandma's hallway, and hearing the sad story of what had happened to him. Like so many of these young me he was not yet married so left no direct descendants but had two nephews later named for him. I have a photograph of him if you would like to add it to your collection.

thinking of my grandfather today who was killed on the 25th may 1940. he is buried at lendelede communal cemetery. l have been lucky enough to visit his gravesite twice and hope to return again in a couple of years time. l have allways been made to feel very welcome by the people that work at the town hall. my grandfathers name is john cowie trooper 315432 12th. royal lancer, R.A.C.

In loving tribute to my grandfather, Thomas James Bartley,
2nd Lieutenant, 42nd Australian Infantry Battalion, who died in the Battle of Messines, Belgium on June 10th 2017, aged 24, and is buried at Bethleem Farm East Cemetery. His son, (who was my father, now deceased) was named Thomas James Bartley after him. He never saw his son as he was only two months old when his father died.

My great uncle died on the 1/9/1918 in the battle of the Somme. He was buried in the Peronne cemetery after being moved from another area. Not sure where. ANZAC day is very meaningful especially to remember him and all who gave their lives for our freedom. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

Found the uncle i never met William Elmes died 1916. Shall keep looking as i would love to see photo sometime

Great website - my great granduncle Denis Buckley I just discovered *if I am correct, died at Aisne in France, with the Connaught Rangers and is buried there. It is good to know what happened to him and where he may be buried.

Pierre, Just sent you a e-mail regarding Eric Hughes, he was my dads cousin. Eric was born 1914-1940. My dad William Hughes Evans was only 13 when Eric died. Dad passed away last November aged 86. I attached a photo of Eric, greatly honoured if his image is placed on your website.

i was thankful when i found my nans relative pte wilfred badrock of the kings shropshire light infantry in this cememtry i very proud and my nan would have been to this young man died on the 1/04/1918 and won the mm for is bravery in the face of the enemy he served with the shropshire yeomanry as well before being inlisted in the ksli he now in a peaceful place of rest. god bless wilfred and rest in peace always in memory.

I found your website with a picture of Jesse Allen Mockford. He was my Great Uncle, my Grandfathers elder brother. He was a footman at Hurstmonceux Castle working for Colonel Lowther who raised the Lowthers lambs. Jesse was underage when he joined up. His company commanding officer was the War artist Neville Lytton who's signature is in his pay book. I believe Edmund Blunden the war poet was also an officer in his company he died at Pilkem ridge. His step brother Francis Marshall Coombs died on the 30th June 1916 'The day Sussex died'

Hi I am researching my family history, and my great Uncle Wilfred Thomas Chaning Pearce is buried at Derry House Cementary. He died in action 1/10/1917 at the age of 32. He was Captain in the R.A.M.C. I would love to know more about him, if anyone out there can help me.

We are planning to visit the graves of sailors from the Athabaskan this April 2014. We will be at the 70th Anniversary of the sinking of the Atha B at St. Mathieu on April 29/14.
My father served on the Athabaskan and was listed as MIA PD.

This is the first time I have come across your site - we as a family have visited my grandad's grave in Estaimbourg, he is Walter Butlin. I am always moved and humbled by how the people of the village tend to these graves, I am due out in May this year with my son, and I look forward to showing him the respect shown to his great-grandfathers and the others.

i also am looking for a pic of joseph mulllineaux dewhurst to display in our church as he is remembered on our war memorial, i presume because his father was the owner of the local cotton mill. i can find no record of him being employed at carrington and dewhurst grove mill in eccleston nr chorley and would appriciate any information you have of him between 1911 and the time he enlisted.

I too lost my own father, Basil Maurice halhed, in the Second World War .
My husband and I went to visit his grave at Monte Cassino in 2002 which was a very emotional time indeed. My father never met me but did know about me and my Mother was posting first photo of me when she received word of his death.

In memory of Private 41726 Robert Reece Burgess who died from bayonet wounds on 6 May 1917. He is at rest in Grevillers Cemetery, his own small piece of a foreign field. He is often in the thoughts of his niece Phyllis Cox.

I am looking for Photographs to Exhibit in Church of Joseph Mullineaux Dewhurst. He was killed on 7/11/17 age 24.
He was from Southport Merseyside(Then of course Lancashire)

Thank you for including the name of my Great Uncle Clifford Ingleson, Durham Light Infantry, We will always remember him and his peers of that generation that did so much for us, their future generations.

In 1992 I visited the cemetery at Elverdinghe to pay my respects to the grandfather I never knew: Sapper Leonard Maurice Lloyd. Most moving were the inscription which my grandmother had added to his headstone nearly 50 yrs after his death. Quite simply, it read: "I have missed you all these years". Her words must have reflected those of the millions across the world whose lives were forever marred by the obscenity of those 4 yrs which served only to ensure that blood letting became the 20th Century's legacy with all of the subsequent clashes of ideologies in which fathers, sons and brothers were erased - and continue to be.

My great uncle Sergeant John McMullan 10th Batt RIR 15457 died 03 April 1918 aged 21, buried Avesnes-sur-helpe France. Death certificate states 'dd' died of disease. Would like to know how he came to be buried here, maybe a POW, and if there are tours to this area. His medal index card states that his medals were returned. Can I request them?

I noticed you haven't included Bray Vale British Cemetery in your list, it seems to be out of the way in most directories of War Cemeteries in France. It is north east of the town of Bray-sur-Somme in France. I know of one Australian soldier buried there, mainly because he's related to me. I will be visiting the western front in April this year and wondered how easy or not it is to get to Bray Vale Cemetery from Amiens?

George ronald pearce aged 17 is buried at Rockingham cemetery and was of the warwickshire regiment . He was my nan brother in law and uncle to my mom. My mom still alive at 84 wants to find out the circumstances surrounding his death. Why are they buried where they are why 4 members of the warwickshire regiment and what tours are organised to visit the grave and that of the large memorial in stores as my great grandad James burden is memorialized on the large tablets from ww 1. On a quiet summer's evening in 2012, I visited the grave of my 'cousin' Edward Bruce Haswell, Lance Corporal of the Durham Light Infantry. Such a lovely, peaceful little cemetery, off the beaten track and surrounded by fields. Would love to hear from any other relatives.

John Henry Archbutt Died from wounds 30/6/1916 he had been out on a scouting party and all were killed either instantly or died later of wounds which is what happened to "Jack" as the family called him.None of the family ever went to France to visit his grave but I will do my best to visit it one day. He was my Great Uncle. He died young as lots of other very brave men did in that terrible conflict

My uncle Arthur Ralph Cooper is buried at Bailleul East Cemetery. He served with the 2nd Batt Royal Marine Light Infantry for ten years, first as a marine and then as a corporal. He survived both the battles in Gallipoli and Gavrelle.
I visited his grave in 1997 and was moved to tears. He was the first of three brothers to be killed in the Great War.

I had the pleasure to meet and talk with the gentleman from Plouescat, who located the final resting place of the Atha B. My great uncle Albert Ernest Rennie served with the Canadian military (18th Battalion) and was killed on August 5, 1917 at age 21. The "war to end all wars" was an horrific slaughter; however we must honour and acknowledge those whose lives were cut short and the families that suffered these losses. Peace.
