My son, Stuart and I travelled to Grévillers recently to vist the resting place of my Great Uncle. EA Webb MM. RFA. Died of wounds on 12th Sept. 1918.
We thank each man laid there and within the numerous other cemeteries scattered across the world for their sacrifice.

You have my Grandmothers brother William Charles Lawrence Simpson who died in March 1915, of wounds he was a Kings Own Yorkshire light infantry soldier he was called to the Great War as a regular soldier while he was in Hong Kong he was due home at Christmas 1914 I have the postcards he sent my nan but he never arrived as he was sent to France.. I have his letters advising my Nan of his death of wounds and the detail of his burial in Ramparts.. some years ago we visited Ypres the first of Uncle Lawrences family to his grave since he died in 1915. I have always known of my great uncle Frederick James Simmonds, because my dad was named after him when he was born 3 months later. Frederick was KIA 21 Sep 1918 and lays in a grave is in this cemetery, I do hope one day to visit and to pay my respects in person to a brother Gunner. One day we will be united as Gunners “UBIQUE”. E Thompson who's grave is in this cemetery is my great grandfather. His son my grandfather never meet him and my father was name after him Edward John Thompson. Hello, I am researching Frank Allen Dixon, killed in action 19 July 1916 at Fromelles. His body was never found. In Box Hill Cemetery, Australia, there is a grave of his parents. At the foot of the grave is a simple memorial to Frank's life. There is also a Dead Man Penny. The grave is deteriorating and while Frank's remains do not lie there, only a simple memorial exists, I would like to contact descendants of Henry Creswick and Kate Dixon to have this grave repaired.

My Uncle, Reggie Cully, was killed 100 years ago this coming 23rd July, 2018. He is buried in the Sezanne Communal Cemetery in grave A.34. I have been told that he was wounded and being carried by stretcher to the First Aid Post when the party received a direct hit from a shell.
My father, Reggie's older brother, visited his grave with my grandmother many years ago. I have always wanted to visit Sezanne and hopefully I have not left it too late. In the meantime, I would very much like to receive a photograph of Uncle Reggie's grave and any information you may have about his death.

Hello. I am researching my Grandfather Gerald O'Leary who was the tail end charlie in LV 882, The Halifax that came down the night of the2nd - 3rd June 1944.

He parachuted down safely and was driven away by Georges Chateau, a friendly farmer. George reportedly drove Gerald to Raizeux. At some point between landing and the 5th Gerald was killed.

It's not known if he had internal injuries because no injuries were reported by the farmer, if he was shot in a Friendly Fire situation or if there was a fight with the Germans on the ground some time after leaving the site of the crash.

Gerald was buried until after the war in in Chartres having been found dead by in La Taye (more often spelt La Taie) but there are no records of fighting in that area over the period so it is very unlikely he died there. It is likely his body was brought to La Taye from close by because of the danger of being found with a body was ever present so a short journey would have been wise. He was later moved to SAINT-DESIR WAR CEMETERY.

If you had any information on the events or knew of anyone who does or has stories.

My great grandfather John McLinden is buried here D1.7. He was from a small village in Scotland called West Calder. He was killed in the 1st WW at the very start 1914. He had two children John and Mary-Ellen. My father (his grandson John McLinden) and mother visited him a few years back. We also visited in 2015. My husband will be visiting in a few weeks time again. Good to see the cemetery well cared for. We hope to be able to visit in years to come and also for further generations to come back and pay their respects.

I knew almost nothing about the Britter side of my family until I started my research; I have nothing but respect and admiration for my Great-Uncle, Bombr John Joseph Britter (MM) for making the ultimate sacrifice and for being such a role model soldier.

I have no idea if any members of my family since have visited him, but I myself am determined to travel to Dantzig Alley as soon as I am able to.

We are so proud of our Grand father Private Alexander Carswell 40032 "A" Company 6th/7th Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers from Ayr, Scotland, who paid the ultimate sacrifice on the 22nd September 1917. At peace in the New Military Cemetery, Vlamertinghe. Belgium.

I am hoping I get the chance to visit my Gran Uncle grave Michael Corcoran 2nd Battalion in zwevegem communal cemetary. Would like a close up photo of his gravestone if possible. I grew hearing my dad talk about him, glad we were able to locate his grave and know he was never forgotten.

One of them is Francis E Stacey who emigrated to Canada in 1913 but came backto Europe as a volunteer with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. I recently sent you an email at the last address I had, asking you to contact me with regard to making contact with a person who has posted a photo of a Canadian who is buried in the communal cemetery in Plougoumelen. The town will be erecting a memorial and have been able to contact all families with the exception of Gordon Fletcher HARRISON, Royal Canadian Air Force. I noted there is a photo of Gordon Fletch Harrison that was submitted by his great niece, Jennifer Clark. Hi, My greatgrandfather Frederick Roberts private 7718 Royal munster fusiliers from Liverpool UK killed 16/4/1916 and is buried in MESNIL RIDGE CEMETERY, MESNIL-MARTINSART. His name has lived on in our family he left a wife and 4 children my nan Mary was the eldest. We have no photos if there is a photo of his regiment out there can I please have a copy ( i know a long shot ) thanks for this website.

Hi, I visited the war graves at the NOEUX-les-MINES Cemetery (nr Bethune) of my GRANDFATHER in May last year. It was the 100th anniversary of his death, Alfred J. CHESSMAN d.30/05/1917. It was the first time any member of our family had visited the WW1 Graves. I found it very emotional, especially as my Dad was born 2 months after his father was killed, so never met this brave man.

Also, we visited the VERMELLES British Cemetery to find the grave of Benjamin POWELL d.22/04/1916 - Gt Uncle to my husband.

We travelled on to CONNAUGHT Cemetery nr Thiepval to visit the grave of my Gt.Uncle Edward COOPER d.02/02/2017 - his brother Arthur P. COOPER also died 11/11/2017, but was on the HMS M.15, which got torpedoed & sunk by the U-boat UC-38 off the coast of Palestine - his name is on the Navy Memorial at Portsmouth.

Also, Walter POWEL d.23/02/1915 (2 x remvd cousin of my husband who is buried in DERNANCOURT Communal Cemetery Ext.

Plus visiting the Memorials of ARRAS & THIEPVAL, finding names of family also on these memorials.

To see these family graves and the two Memorials for the brave soldiers that died and who have no known graves, was very moving and I would urge anyone to visit these sites if at all possible.

I find it fascinating discovering my past but unfortunately many miles separate my past to the present. My Great Uncle Bobby, Robert Swann is buried in Sains-du-Nord Communal Cemetery in northern France and I am so fortunate to have found your photo of his grave site. Charles Woollaston - Coldstream guards - was killed (1944) in his armoured car 1 week before his son (me) was born. Lets hope the politicians of the future can do a better job to prevent such slaughter.

This summer we will visiting Dernancourt. We will be paying our respects to Private Victor Alexander Walsh of Royal Marines RN Division who sadly lost his life on the 24th March 1918. We are visiting because until very recently Victor was unknown to us. It is important to make the Journey as his parents Thomas and Jane were unable to do so. Jane's ancestors (CARLIER) were originally from a village near Somme.

My Grandfather, Sgt. John Cowie died on August 9, 1918 when a mortar landed and exploded in his trench with the concussion killing him and four others. He's buried and not forgotten in HILLSIDE Cemetery (Le Quesnel) (Somme France).
